The busy mid-December weekend camp was time for the second round of 2010 auditions, the 2009 banquet, and also brought the first official meeting of the Crossmen Alumni Association in San Antonio with the purpose of forming the new southwest chapter.
Attending the meeting were Rick Reedy, the Chairman of the Crossmen Alumni Association, several NE and SW alumni who aged-out when the corps was based in the northeast, and several SW alumni who have recently marched with the Crossmen in Texas. Ideas were shared about how to network and lead the Crossmen alumni in both home bases. A new effort will be made immediately to contact alumni living in the southwest, gathering interest for leadership, social events, fundraisers, and how to stay connected to the Crossmen and the Crossmen Alumni Association. If you are interested in contributing to this communication effort or just getting back in touch in the region around Texas, please email
Evan Woods ('04 Euphonium, '06 DM).
"We are looking for alumni, volunteers and Crossmen supporters from the states of Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and New Mexico to join the new SW chapter," stated Michael Lennox, Crossmen Alumni Association Southwest Co-Chairman. Mike has a rich history with the corps starting as a member of the 507 Hornets in the 1970's. The Hornets and Keystone Regiment merged in late December of 1974 to become what is still today known as the Crossmen. A former resident of Philadelphia and the nearby state of Delaware, Mike was a driver and volunteer when the corps still resided in the northeast and continues in that role today.
"To our good fortune, Mike and his family relocated to San Antonio, TX a year before the Crossmen did," related Fred Morrison, Crossmen Executive Director. "Mike was the second person to call us after the announced move. Rick Reedy was the first. Mike has been with us every step of the way. Our success is in no minor part due to his and others like him who continue to support their Crossmen no matter what the geographical location. I can't think of a better team than Mike, Evan and Rick to get the new chapter up and running and coordinating their efforts with the rest of the Crossmen faithful."
Recent alumni data show that there are over 500 potential members for the SW chapter in the 5 state SW region. We will need every one of them to rise to this call of support. This is truly an exciting time for the Crossmen and our two homes!
