Patricia Plan O'Neill, MD

Dr. Patricia “Patty” Plan O’Neill’s induction into the Crossmen Hall of Fame recognizes her extraordinary dedication to the corps as an alumna, physician, medical leader, volunteer, fundraiser, mentor, and devoted caretaker of the Crossmen family.

Patty marched with the Crossmen in the front ensemble during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, and returned to perform with the 2024 Crossmen Alumni Corps. In 2024, she gave to the organization in remarkable fashion, balancing her role as a marching alumna with her ongoing medical support for both the current corps and the alumni corps.

As a busy physician, Dr. Patty has donated countless hours to the health, safety, and well-being of the members. Her work has gone far beyond treating injuries and illness on tour. She has helped rebuild and strengthen the corps’ medical program by updating medical forms, developing guidelines, improving screenings, establishing best practices, and creating systems that help ensure members receive appropriate care at camps and on tour.

One of Patty’s most important contributions has been building a medical volunteer structure that supports the corps even when she cannot personally be present. Through her leadership, the Crossmen have developed a stronger network of medical professionals and volunteers who help provide consistent care throughout the season.

Patty’s service reflects the full spirit of the Crossmen values of Mind, Body, Spirit, and Discipline. She cares for the body through medical support and wellness planning. She supports the mind and morale of the members by creating moments of joy, encouragement, and connection, including Christmas in July celebrations, treats, and other meaningful experiences during the season. She shows spirit through her constant willingness to serve, organize, fundraise, host gatherings, emcee trivia nights, sponsor meals, purchase medical supplies, and support members financially. She demonstrates discipline as a physician who carefully balances compassion for members’ medical needs with encouragement to return safely and confidently to the field.

Her impact is felt not only in policies and procedures, but in the personal care she provides. Patty has been a source of strength, reassurance, and hope for members, families, staff, and volunteers during difficult moments. Whether supporting a member through illness, helping a parent understand a medical concern, or standing beside someone during a crisis, she brings compassion, clarity, and calm when people need it most.

Those who know Patty describe her as someone who gives without hesitation and without seeking recognition. She sponsors members, supports fundraisers, donates personally, and works year-round to help the corps succeed. Her joy comes from seeing the Crossmen thrive and from knowing that members are cared for, supported, and able to experience the corps at their best.

Patty embodies what it means to pay it forward. She marched with the Crossmen, returned to serve the organization, and has given her time, expertise, resources, and heart to the members who followed. Her care extends far beyond bandages and medicine. She creates the small moments, the encouragement, the comfort, and the sense of family that make the Crossmen experience unforgettable.

For her years as a marching member, her service as a physician and medical leader, her work strengthening the corps’ health and wellness systems, her generosity as a fundraiser and supporter, her mentorship of members and volunteers, and her unwavering devotion to the Crossmen family, we proudly honor Dr. Patricia “Patty” Plan O’Neill, MD as a member of the Crossmen Hall of Fame Class of 2026.
