Thom Hannum
2003
Induction:
Thom Hammum got his start in drum corps marching with the Keystone Regiment of Newtown Square, PA. That corps would later merge with the 507 Hornets from Norwood, PA to form what we now know today as the Crossmen.
Thom was a charter member of the 1975 Crossmen, marching in the snare line under the instruction of Billy Kaufmann and Eric Landis until he aged out in 1978. He went on to become a member of the percussion staff and the percussion arranger for the Crossmen until 1982, creating some of the most musical and dynamic books in the activity. His influence paved the way for future Crossmen drum lines of the late 80's and throughout the 1990's.
After leaving the Crossmen in 1982, Thom went on to become one of the leading percussion talents in drum corps history, garnering championship acclaim with the legendary Garfield Cadets corps of the 80's and the rise of the Star of Indiana as a powerhouse in the early 90's.
Thom returned home to the Crossmen as arranger from 1997-1999, continuing his legacy of producing drum lines of superior musical quality and excellence. His persistence and refusal to accept anything but the best effort rubbed off on the entire drum corps.
His cumulative body of work, as well as his long-reaching impact in the world of marching percussion, earned him a spot in Drum Corps International's Hall of Fame in 2001. And while there are other corps who have been fortunate to benefit from his talents through the years, Thom Hannum's creative and inspirational impact on the Crossmen cannot be understated.
